Dutch post modern foldable side chair, Eindhoven Design Academy, 1980s

Striking foldable chair from the Eindhoven design academy circle, circa 1980s. Constructed from painted wood panels and steel frame elements with bold geometric cutouts throughout the backrest and lower frame. The design employs open triangular voids front and back, creating a deliberately skeletal, sculptural presence while maintaining functionality. The seat is acrylic or similar rigid transparent material, allowing sightlines through the form. The chair folds via hinged metal joints (welded/riveted steel) integrated into the wood structure. Sharp angles and negative space are characteristic of postmodern design methodology from this period. Material mixing (wood + metal joinery) is typical of Eindhoven design vocabulary. Painted wood (black finish), steel frame and hinge mechanisms, acrylic seat. Welded and riveted joinery throughout; mechanical folding mechanism intact. Good vintage condition. Wood shows patina consistent with age; paint has minor wear and surface marks. Metal hardware shows oxidation on exposed surfaces (visible in hinges). No structural issues; folds and functions smoothly. Seat height at 44 cm.
