Salad cutlery consisting of a fork and a serving spoon in silver-plated metal. The oval and deep spoon corresponds to a fork with four wide tines, separated by fine slots ending in a small eyelet. The handles, long and narrow, widen into a rounded spatula, with an outline highlighted by a fillet. The decoration, stamped in slight relief, combines a leafy attachment at the base of the handle, a leafy branch on the spatula, and a small laurel frieze at its end. This ornamental vocabulary is characteristic of the Louis XVI style, common in French table silverware from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. A piece for serving salads, raw vegetables, or herbs, to be placed in a large turned wooden or stoneware salad bowl on a rustic wooden dining table. Length 27 cm. The silver plating shows a grey, satin patina, with fine usage scratches on the spoons and spatulas and slight signs of oxidation, with no defects that hinder use. On the reverse of the spoons, there is a square hallmark with the number 90 accompanied by a symbol, a type used on French silver-plated cutlery to indicate the amount of silver deposited, and a second rectangular hallmark from a silversmith, which is difficult to read. Likely French manufacture, from the first half of the 20th century. Please feel free to contact me for more information.
