Original lithograph signed in pencil in the margin by the artist at the bottom right and marked "EA" (Artist's Proof) at the bottom left. Dimensions (including margins): 66.9 cm X 50.7 cm. Circa: 1950/1960. Gabriel Zendel (1906-1992) was a French painter, engraver, and lithographer associated with the School of Paris. This lithograph corresponds very well to the "Zendel" style of his mature, post-war period. I would describe it as: School of Paris / modern figuration / post-Cubist and Fauvist influence. Several very typical characteristics of Zendel can be found: * Extremely saturated colours: turquoise blue, yellows, reds, oranges; * Flowers treated in a very expressive, almost monumental way; * Simplification of volumes, without seeking botanical realism; * Strongly drawn outlines; * Quite geometric construction of the vase, base, and background; * Juxtaposition of colour fields rather than naturalistic modelling; * Blue background constructed with small touches/blocks, giving almost a decorative texture to the composition. The lithograph is in good condition; however, it has numerous "folds" in the margin (all visible in the photo). It is not framed, so very easy to deliver. It is kept flat but will be exceptionally rolled at the last moment for shipping in case of delivery! Careful protective shipping in a sturdy package!.
