Description
Sculptural, imposing, raw, with a strong character, the diya artisanal pottery in glazed terracotta is produced by hand with a very particular technique in the village of tamegroute in the south of morocco and is simply sublime... We will tell you about the work artisans from this village located at the gates of the sahara in the drâa valley. Evocative names that allow our imagination to wander. This village in the middle of nowhere, made up of streets with adobe houses surrounding the kasbah, is crossed by a single motorable road. It appears in the landscape like a mirage. Tamegroute pottery is still worked in the heart of the kasbah. Like any ancient fortified city, there is of course no running water. The artisans fetch clay and water on donkeys or in vans from the river of the adjoining oasis during the rainy season and obtain water from the only well hidden from the sun in the very center of the cooperative. During the dry season. These specialists mainly work green pottery. They sometimes test other colors but as mohamed explained to me, the pigments are expensive and they don't have the means to develop numerous tests.
