Large 19th century mirror. Superb gilding with gold leaf.

This large 19th century mirror offers a magnificent frame in wood and stucco gilded with gold leaf. The gilding is original and particularly bright and patinated. We see the re-emergence, in touches, of the period red undercoat which adds character to this dazzling gold. The pediment forms a cartridge surrounded by plants which come to rest on the top of the mirror. There is a large fresco of piastres on the frame as well as a complete row of pearls on the edge of the ice. We can clearly see, in places, the superpositions of the gold leaf made at the time by the gilder. Some minimal touch-ups here and there to the frame but it is in excellent condition. The so-called mercury ice cream, a little faded in places, has a few pits here and there which reinforce its charm. The back is bare, with reinforcements at the top to ensure the ice stays in place. Above a fireplace or placed on the floor, these mirrors are essential to any classy decor because you just need to place them in a room to immediately enhance it. H: 152 cm. L: 105cm.
