Vicke Lindstrand (1904 – 1983) was a major Swedish designer who served as the artistic director for the ceramics factory Upsala-Ekeby from 1942 to 1950. He created expressive glazed earthenware, vases, and animal sculptures featuring organic shapes and distinct mid-century modern styles. Upsala-Ekeby was a flagship of Swedish ceramics from the start in 1885. Over the years, the company and its designers presented numerous art pottery and tableware classics. Around 1920, Upsala-Ekeby began to recruit designers in an effort to raise its artistic standards...The World Exhibition in Paris in 1925 turned out to be an international breakthrough for Swedish utility art, but for Upsala-Ekeby, the breakthrough came later in the 1930s. In the ensuing decades, Upsala-Ekeby would become one of the brightest stars of the Swedish interior design world.
