We are delighted to offer for sale this magnificent original English desk from around 1740, made of figured walnut, rosewood, and boxwood, with a writing surface in brown leather gilded with gold leaf. This highly decorative and significant desk dates from the mid-18th century and resembles a piece of art furniture. The main body is composed of figured walnut, burr, and mixed burl, while the edging is a blend of rosewood and boxwood. The handles, locks, and escutcheons are all polished and original. The desk has been thoroughly cleaned, waxed, and hand-polished. Signs of age-related patina and use are visible, as well as old repairs to the veneer that add to the charm of the piece. The item measures 102.5 cm in height, 100 cm in width, and 56 cm in depth. Please refer to the detailed photos for the condition, which is good with wear consistent with age, small losses, and slight dulling. The natural leather shows cracks, creases, and signs of normal wear; regular waxing is recommended. The hand-dyed leather should be protected from direct light to prevent drying and discolouration.
