Alvar Aalto’s model 36/401 is a high wingback armchair. Designed in 1933 and the same year exhibited at the Milan Triennale. Cantilevered, without the need for back legs, the birchwood frame cradles and supports the comfortable seat. It’s curved, lacquered birchhwood frame boasts a warm spring tint, complementing the sumptuous wheat/honey woven raffia upholstery adorning the seat. Alvar Aalto is recognized master of modern architecture and design. His work includes furniture and houseware designs, which were supllementary and evolved organically from his architectural work. Through attention to detail and innovative use of materials (hence the name of his founded company Artek - art and technology) his pieces achieve a sense of harmony with nature whilst combining funcionalism with beauty and design. Lacquered birch, woven raffia upholstery, seat with springs. Height to seat ca. 34cm. Width 62cm, total height 99cm. The chair is in good vintage condition with some signs of wear in the upholstery (please see the pictures or ask for details).
