19th century white porcelain and brass rocking inkwell. Its snail shape (called siphoid) allows the entire porcelain part to tip over and thus prevent the ink from drying out. The brass support is marked "encrier - jl - bascule - paris" The porcelain is split on top but the inkwell remains functional. Found in a house in auvergne, it has been washed in water and retains its patina. 12.5 cm cup diameter. 10 cm tall. Snail size 9 X 6.5 cm.
