Superleggera (very light) chair, model 699. Designed by Gio Ponti from 1951 to 1957 for Cassina Italia. An icon of modern design and one of the most famous creations of this Italian master. Its name reflects the Milanese architect's desire to create the lightest possible chair. It took him years to perfect it, reducing the triangular section of the legs to just 18 millimeters to achieve the actual minimum weight of only 1,700 grams. The result is astonishing: so light, yet so sturdy and comfortable. And in addition, the chair is also very elegant. A true masterpiece. The chair has a solid ash frame and a straw seat. This is an early edition and is unmarked. The chair is in good condition with some signs of wear, particularly on the frame. The straw seat is still in good condition, no damage. The chair is sturdy.
