(pál weisz) This unique pair of armchairs was designed by pál vince, a prominent figure in hungarian furniture design, who studied under gyula kaesz and later graduated in architecture under emil fahrenkamp in düsseldorf. Originally named weisz pál, he changed his name in 1945. His work bridges the modernist traditions of interwar europe and postwar hungarian craftsmanship. Designed and produced between 1947 and 1948, these armchairs reflect the refined elegance and modernist aesthetic of the period – soft, rounded forms, balanced proportions, and meticulous detailing. These are not just functional pieces, but design artifacts of historical significance. The chairs have undergone a full, museum-quality restoration using authentic, traditional techniques: Hand-retied springs and new webbing. Solid wood frame repairs. Natural afric stuffing materials. Traditional hand-nailed upholstery (antique light-green) Black walnut legs with lacquered finish. The new upholstery ( luxory tessuti) complements the original design, enhancing its timeless elegance. These are more than just pieces of furniture – they are valuable artworks, worthy of inclusion in a curated interior or private collection. Their rarity and historical value make them an exceptional choice for discerning collectors, aesthetes, and lovers of hungarian design heritage. (dokumented piece. The contemporary black-and-white photo is from the archives of the hungarian museum of applied arts.) H68cm w65cm d65cm sh 43.
