Vintage Scandinavian Table Lamp with Teak Base

A table lamp with a minimalist, organic form that evokes Scandinavian design from the second half of the 20th century. Its base is made of solid, heavy teak, whose warm, brown hue and distinctive grain pattern are the piece’s primary material qualities. The body has a compact, cylindrical shape with gently rounded edges. The proportions of the base are based on the contrast between the massive lower section and the more delicate, vertical profile. The lamp is crowned by a wide, conical shade with a regular, finely pleated finish. The light, natural color of the fabric harmonizes with the shade of teak, and the radiating arrangement of the pleats emphasizes the geometric silhouette of the shade. The contrast between the weight of the solid wood and the light, rhythmic structure of the shade lends the whole a balanced character. The design combines structural simplicity with an emphasis on the natural qualities of the materials. Turned wood and a pleated lampshade are design elements commonly found in Scandinavian table lamps from the Mid-Century Modern period.
