An absolutely magnificent, huge silver-plated serving platter, designed and made by Franco Lapini in the 1970s. This is one of the largest masterpieces he made: two lobsters facing each other on a decorated surface. Signed on the underside, with a number in the rim. Franco Lapini was an Italian silversmith based in Florence from 1963. He trained at the Istituto d’Arte Internazionale di Porta Romana before opening his first workshop. Lapini had a deep interest in 15th-century Renaissance metalworking techniques; the company still uses very traditional techniques and refined, lasting materials today, creating spectacular pieces for palaces and galleries that are displayed worldwide. An exceptionally large and theatrical piece of silverware, where craftsmanship and wit come together. A statement on a long dining table or sideboard in a Hollywood Regency, classic or eclectic interior.
