Gabriella Crespi (1922-2017), Italian designer Basket, tray, centerpiece, fruit bowl In rattan and brass Design from the 1970s Sublime work Height: 10cm (excluding handle) Length: 40cm Width: 31.5cm Very good general condition, a damaged rattan "vine" on the underside which does not affect stability at all *Born near Florence and trained at the Polytechnic of Milan, Italian designer Gabrielle Crespi (1922-2017) achieved cult status thanks to her penchant for geometric and sculptural forms imbued with glamour. Crespi's career spanned the period from the 1950s to the 1980s. Although she often cites pioneers of modernism like Frank Lloyd Wright and Le Corbusier as major influences, her furniture, lighting and decorative accessories were largely handcrafted from refined materials - never intended for the mass market. His high-end collections originate from wax drawings and prototypes given to him by Italian artisans and experts. Among his most famous creations are the Z Table and Z Bar (1972-75), the Tiffany-like Fungo Lamp (1973), the block-shaped Menhir Cabinet (1978), the Yang Yin Desk (1979), and the sculpted Ara Table (1979). Crespi notably designed four Plurimo collections, the prototype of which was revealed in an exhibition in Dallas in 1968. The first collection, designed in collaboration with his daughter Elisabetta in 1970, consisted of the Magic Cube, 2000, Dama, and Scultura. The second was launched in 1976 and included the Ellisse and the Cubo Tondo, while the third introduced Blow Up, Eclipse and Sit & Sip in 1980. The fourth and final edition of the Plurimo series was created in 1982 and named Punto '83. This Plurimo was a unique piece, designed especially for the exhibition "I Plurimi di Gabriella Crespi" at the Museum of Science and Technology in Milan.
