Pair of antique golden poplar shelves, Italy, 20th century

Pair of large eclectic free-standing shelves in carved and gilded wood, Italy, third quarter of the 19th century. The tops are shaped and covered in velvet, with the supports consisting of a carved back section against which architectural elements sculpted in the style of baroque pilasters are found at the front, these featuring "S"-shaped scrolls with curls at the ends. The pilasters are also decorated with leafy elements and floral garlands held by ribbons. Gilding partially restored.
