This coffee table features an architecturally structured oblong shape entirely made of brass. The frame rests on six vertical tubular supports, rhythmically accented at the bottom with turned rings and finished with small turned feet. The rigidity and elegance of the base are ensured by a complex ground stretcher, combining a central "X" cross and two lateral arcs. The upper top, enclosing a thick sheet of transparent glass, is rhythmically adorned beneath each leg with decorative clips (rosettes) made of cast brass. The combination of geometric rigor, neoclassical elements (X stretcher, turned rings, rosettes), and the nobility of brass stylistically links this table to the prestigious productions of the Baguès House. Founded in Paris in the 19th century, this manufacturer is the absolute reference in the art of gilded bronze and brass in France. In the 1950s and 1960s, to respond to the enthusiasm for the Hollywood Regency style, Baguès produced a series of coffee tables and serving tables blending the finesse of metal with the transparency of glass, commissioned by the greatest international decorators for prestigious residences. Condition report: Overall good condition. The brass structure shows natural oxidation and a homogeneous patina of use, attesting to its age. The original glass top exhibits probable surface micro-scratches inherent to its use. With its span of 100 cm and very airy profile, this table will structure the space of a classic or contemporary living room without weighing down the visual volumes.
