Superb pair of chairs from the art deco period. These chairs, made of walnut, are a perfect mix of styles. Indeed, the canus seat clearly takes the shape of the chairs that were found in farms and countryside from the mid-nineteenth to the mid-twentieth. Canning was a material particularly often used on this type of chairs. The backrest, square and rectilinear, with 4 bars, is of the "modern" style of the art deco period. The front feet take up, at their extremity, a vegetal stem shape reminiscent of art nouveau, a style inspired by nature; the rear legs have a sabre shape, like most chairs of the directoire and restoration period. These chairs are akin to a challenge that the craftsman would have set himself, mixing styles of several centuries, and the result is quite remarkable. They are in very good general condition, with of course traces of life and some wormholes, but they are very solid and stable. A treatment was applied and they were protected with an antique dealer's wax. The canning is in remarkable condition, with some small gaps here and there, but nothing that hinders their use. These chairs will look great around a small table, or in an office, why not! Circa 1920. Size: Height: 88 cm. Seat height: 46 cm. Width: 41 cm. Seat width: 41 cm. Depth: 44 cm. Seating depth: 37 cm. Weight: 4 kg each. Delivery possible in france and worldwide.
