Large antique Gien earthenware tile, model 280

In a silent clearing, in the heart of a stylized forest, a young stag freezes in the light… In the background, a doe observes him peacefully, barely visible among the foliage. This large Gien earthenware tile, decorated in soft blue-grey tones on an ivory background, offers a scene of rare delicacy. Nothing ostentatious: everything is in the line, the silence of the forest, the lightness of the design. The whole evokes more of a dream or a tale than a simple animal scene. Estimated period: first half of the 20th century. Numbered 280 partly erased on the edge – Gien stamp on the back, 280 corresponds to the model. Let us recall that the Gien earthenware factory, in 1882, the company started manufacturing ceramic covering tiles and obtained the Paris metro contract in 1906. Format: approximately 20 X 20 cm, weight 800 grams. Good condition: patina of time, small chips and wear on the edge, a slightly larger chip at the bottom right and a hairline crack (see Photos) A rare piece perfect for framing or simply as a chic and vintage trivet!
