IMARI STYLE PORCELAIN PLATE (Japan)

This is a porcelain plate in the Imari style (Japan), most likely produced during the Meiji period (1868-1912) or at the very beginning of the 20th century. Identification and style. Style and decoration: Traditional polychrome decoration in the Imari palette, alternating underglaze blue, iron red, and green/orange enamel on a white glazed background. The reserves (cartouches) feature floral and plant motifs. The centre displays a classic composition of the "three friends of winter" (pine, bamboo, plum) or crane/pine motifs. Format: Lobed edges (foliated rim), typical of Japanese export porcelain from this period. Reverse: Presence of quick blue strokes at the edge (simplified decorations very common on Imari from this time) and a white background without explicit kiln marks, which corresponds to a common export production from the late 19th century.
