Sublime covered pot or ginger pot in red lacquered wood inlaid with mother-of-pearl, with black background. The pot is hexagonal in shape, with a different scene on each side, depicting flowers, birds or mother-of-pearl butterflies. Each scene has a meaning in chinese decoration, such as the butterfly that associated with plum blossoms, symbolizes beauty but also longevity or the lotus that symbolizes fertility but especially purity and everything perfect. The lid is circular, with a 4-claw dragon and a phoenix. The dragon and the phoenix are the two most powerful symbols of success and prosperity in chinese mythology. While the dragon is a yang element and represents the king, the phoenix is a yin element and represents the queen. The complementarity of yin and yang in the dragon-phoenix couple symbolizes the happiness of marriage. The pot is old but in excellent condition except for a slot in the bottom, visible in the photos, which does not detract from its decorative potential and solidity. Height 28cm, diameter 24cm (lid diameter 21cm).
