Description
Imari porcelain corresponds to a style of ceramics developed and exported by japan in the 18th century via the port of imari in the saga domain. Porcelain production in japan began in the arita region, a potter's town on the island of kyushu in 1616. According to tradition, a korean named ri sampei, settled willingly or by force in the region, understood the interest in exploiting a kaolin deposit, located nearby, at the foot of the izumiyama hill. His mastery of high temperature ovens allowed him to go as far as melting kaolin, around 1, 400°c, to obtain porcelain similar to that of the chinese. This brought about the end of a monopoly that was more than seven centuries old. Beautiful copy from the 20th century dimensions 21 cm 8 inches.
