Wear consistent with age and use. No chips or cracks. An exceptional large baluster vase by roger capron in white ceramic with patterned design created using paraffin during the glazing process. Blue painted design and embossed crowns of leaves separated in black. This very large piece (31.5cm) is signed on the base "capron vallauris" and is in perfect condition. Roger Capron studied applied arts in Paris then moved to Vallauris in 1946 where he founded a ceramics workshop, contributing to the local renaissance of ceramics. In 1952, he bought an abandoned pottery and opened a small ceramics factory, with 15 workers. By 1957 he had established a considerable international reputation. In 1980 his factory employed 120 people and during that same decade he reverted to making one-off pieces which were shown internationally. Following an economic crisis, the factory was closed in 1982. Capron died in 2006, leaving behind a considerable body of work that is recognized worldwide. A detailed certificate will be provided to the buyer on our gallery letterhead.
