This pair of 1930s Bauhaus cantilever armchairs, model EK32, was designed by Hynek Gottwald and produced by Gottwald. The clearly curved steel tube construction is chrome-plated and demonstrates the characteristic dynamic lines of classical modernism. The cantilevered form provides the typical springy seating motion that makes Freischwinger armchairs so distinctive. The armrests are made from beech wood, stained and hand-polished with shellac. The warm wood forms an elegant contrast to the cool steel tube. The upholstery has been completely renewed and covered in a deep red fabric. The bold colouring emphasises the sculptural presence of the armchairs and gives the Bauhaus design an expressive quality. With dimensions of 56 cm width, 62 cm depth, and 82 cm height at a seat height of 40 cm, the armchairs are ideal for living rooms, reading corners, or representative spaces. This pair combines original Bauhaus substance with professional restoration and high seating comfort.
