These types of pictorial rugs are known as pahlevan safai naïn rugs. A dwarf rug of stunning fineness and beauty, woven in the workshop of the master "pahlavan 'safai'". A truly extraordinary example of this type, finely knotted with premium kurk wool and silk highlights. Elegant design scheme with an intricate naturalistic pattern on a field surrounded by a stunning border. No wear has been professionally cleaned but some minor stains and rings remain. This semi-antique Nain rug was made by the famous Pahlavan-Safai workshop in Nain around 1960 and is a great example of what old 6-Lah Nain rugs represent in terms of quality and workmanship. If you google Pahlavan-Safai Nain rugs you will see other pieces from this workshop and they are famous for their one-way designs that feature many plants and animals. Like many of the older workshops in Nain, the Pahlavan-Safai family stopped weaving Nain rugs many years ago but their work is highly respected and sought after. Woven to a solid 6 Lah quality, this Nain rug features silk in its design as highlights and the pile is made of a very soft blend of kurkwool wool on a cotton base.
