Mid-century openwork magazine rack, Belgium, 1950s.
A mid-20th-century magazine rack (dating to the 1950s), featuring an Art Deco and Mid-Century Modern aesthetic; of Belgian origin. The piece consists of a basket made from black, openwork sheet metal, topped with a striking looped handle. It stands on slender, chrome-plated brass legs. In terms of style, it draws inspiration from post-war French and Dutch designs (reminiscent of the work of Mathieu Mategot or Artimeta). The item is unsigned and is sold as an authentic, unique, and unattributed piece from the era. Its condition is good to very good (as shown in the photographs). It arrived in poor condition—having been previously repainted—so we restored it to its original state: it has been retouched and repainted in its authentic black color, and the chrome elements have been gently polished. It now presents beautifully—truly spectacularly (see photos). Dimensions: Height: 51 cm. Width: 42 cm. Depth: 20 cm. Weight: 2 kg.
