Description
Large nineteenth wedding chest with lock, polychrome wood, flower crowns, and corners reinforced with metal inserts. (Key not available; side handles renovated.) Traditionally made in Normandy, called "de Rouen", between 1750 and 1890, and generously crafted with hand-painted flowers, these chests were intended to contain the small precious effects of the woman (headdresses, handkerchiefs, scarves, stockings, etc ...) and were often a contribution of dowry of the girl to her new home. Usually finding the initials or the name of the bride, here these seem to have belonged to a certain lorelei. Height: 33cm. Width: 58cm. Depth: 33cm. Weight: 7.6kg. Memory of another era, this object can present some tests of time.
