Description
Buddha protected by naga mucilinda. Early 20th century. 57 X 20 cm. Beautiful patina. Good condition. 15 kg. Sakyamuni buddha meditated, in the sixth week after awakening, sitting under a tree on the edge of a lake. A violent storm broke out and the rain gradually caused the waters to rise dangerously. The cobra mucilinda, the king of the nagas, came out of the lake, coiled its coils under the body of the buddha and spread its heptacephalic (seven-headed) hoods in a fan above him to protect him from the rain during the entire time that lasted. The storm. The buddha, lost in his meditation, with his eyes closed, remained in this position until the end of the storm, unaware of the danger that awaited him.
