Small antique Japanese chest with drawers and compartments, rectangular in shape with a drop-down lid, a central drawer, and two lower compartments with ring handles. Originating from Japan during the Meiji period (1868–1912), where multi-body kodansu organised stationery and small items of the home office. The kodansu with a drop-down lid and differentiated compartments arises from the logic of Japanese order: a single compact piece capable of holding writing utensils, seals, threads, or coins, with each element at its own level. The upper lid provided access to the largest space; the intermediate drawer protected flat documents; the two small lower doors closed off private compartments. Details. Dimensions: Length 36 cm – Depth 25 cm – Height 29 cm. Style: Traditional Japanese, Meiji period.
