Louis XVI style ice trumeau in partially gilded wood and water green lacquer, decorated with pearl fillets, rosettes, and flower bouquets. The mirror is topped with a painting depicting a gallant scene. H x W = 164 x 113 cm. Late 19th century. What we think: a beautiful model that has the advantage of being in good condition; the gallant scene is charming, well-painted, and also in very good condition. Did you know? Emerging in the 17th century, the antique trumeau was initially used to be placed between two windows to increase the brightness of the room and to decorate it. From the 18th century onwards, the trumeau became an essential object in the interior decoration of dining rooms, libraries, and other salons. Painters and artists of the time almost all sculpted or painted works of art on this type of support. It is not uncommon to see trumeaux where the dimensions of the decorative elements are larger than the mirror itself.
