Description
Reproduction, in waxed plaster, of a head of the goddess hygieia. The original piece is now kept in the archaeological museum of athens. She was the greek goddess of health, cleanliness and hygiene. Hygieia was first imported by the romans as valetudo, the goddess of health, but over time she became increasingly identified with the ancient italian goddess of social welfare, salus.
