Antique double frog vase in ceramic

This small double vintage soliflore vase features two intertwined frogs, sitting back to back, each opening their mouths wide to form the two receptacles. The modelling is lively and expressive — well-defined webbed feet, bulging eyes, and a back streaked with dark brown drips on a deep green glaze. The contrast between the intense green glazed exterior and the cream biscuit interior of the mouths enhances the comic effect of the piece. The gesture of the two frogs, with their arms entwined around each other's shoulders, gives the whole a surprising tenderness that is always very appealing in a display.
