Copper pendant light by Werner Schou for Coronell Elektro. Denmark 1960s

Pendant light made from sheets of copper and fitted with thick plastic prisms. Very signature werner schou style with bent copper and warm yellow casted plastic prisms creating a eye catching decorative shine as well as a neutral soft light downwards over a table. The transparent cup on the underside hangs directly on the light bulb and protects from direct glare. The flexible metal holders ensures that it fits most light bulbs shapes. Good condition with very few small copper stains. A very small damage to the plastic under cup as seen in the last photo. This does not effect the lights function. Coronell elektro a/s started in hellerup, denmark 1964, the owner and designer of the very sculptural lamps was werner august hugo schou, the company closed in 1991. The materials for the lamps were a mixture of copper, aluminium, iron, wood and brass, designed in staggered strips with built-in glass/plastic stones in a prism design. It produced a sculptural lighting effect that was very characteristic of werner schou's lamps. Werner and his wife were regularly in the late 60s in hamburg to sell lamps and had good success with it in germany as well. In the 70s, lamps were produced in an extension to their house in hellerup. There were the machines and 3-4 ladies who assembled the lamps. They put slats together, inserted prisms etc. In the 80s things went downhill for the coronell lamps, in line with fashion and werner schous's age, he died in 1995. The lamps are what you would today describe as the cult lamp series abroad, which sell well and hold their value well.
