Description
Very beautiful japanese jewelry cabinet in yosegi-zaiku marquetry composed of six drawers. The set is inlaid with geometrically shaped pieces of wood and decorated with patterns resembling kamon (japanese clan or family weapons). The foot of the furniture is covered with a cork veneer. The yosegi zaiku marquetry technique appeared in japan in the second half of the 19th century, and was used to decorate himitsu-bako secret boxes, but was also used to decorate many other handicrafts such as trays, jewelry, chests, ... This technique consists of cutting different types of wood and assembling them, the differences in color allowing to create patterns. This precious little piece of furniture dates from the second half of the nineteenth century, early meiji period.
