A Finnish art glass vase designed by Gunnel Nyman and made by Nuutajarvi Notsjo in the late 1940s. Heavy clear glass decorated with regular air bubbles. Signed with an almost invisible acid-etched signature. An authentic classic example of Scandinavian art glass. Gunnel Nyman (1909–1948) was a Finnish glass and metal artist, regarded as one of the founders of modern Finnish glass design. From the early 1930s, Nyman began creating bubble glass objects. Her early works used bubbles as an integral element of the glass mass. Her famous creations from the late 1940s often feature small bubbles forming a veil on the outer or inner surface of the pieces. Gunnel Nyman worked for Nuutajärvi, Riihimäki, and Iittala. Bibliographic references: Modernes Glas aus Finnland, Riihimäki 1989, page 69.
