Ammonite fossil on custom stand

Large fossilised ammonite on a custom metal stand. An ammonite is the fossil of an extinct sea creature related to today's squid, octopus, and nautilus. It was not a snail, even though the spiral-shaped shell resembles one. Ammonites lived in the oceans about 400 to 66 million years ago. They were particularly successful during the Mesozoic era, the age of the dinosaurs, and became extinct during the same mass extinction at the end of the Cretaceous, about 66 million years ago. Dimensions: 46H X 45W X 23D cm. Ammonite itself: 42L X 39H cm.
