Alfred-jean foretay (1861-1944) is a swiss painter and sculptor who studied at the ecole des beaux-arts in paris in the sculpture section at alexandre falguière. After a few years in paris, where he exhibited at the salon des artists français, he returned to switzerland around 1910. He devoted himself to painting. He returned to france between 1918 and 1935 and criss-crossed it while passing through italy. His painting draws a light and a color typical of each region he describes under his brush.
