This is a set of four chairs designed by Antonin Suman and produced by TON Furniture Factory, Czechoslovaka in 1962 as model No. 301. Antonin Suman (1924-1998) was one of the most talented and prolific Czech furniture designers of the second half of the 20th Century. Throughout his career Suman was responsible for some 650 designs, some of which were the most popular and commercially successful pieces and are now collectibles, seen as icons of Czech design. These four chairs have nicely curved seats that have a lovely light green colour fabric, but the main design feature is the backrest. The main oak frame is slightly curved backwards while the six supporting bars in the middle bend the opposite way. This solution not only make these chairs very comfortable to sit on but also creates certain "tension" and an overall expressive form. All four chairs are in great vintage condition. They have some minimal wear and some patina on their wooden surfaces gained from their use over the years. Structurally they are perfectly fine without any damage to their construction. The old damaged fabric has been replaced by an identical replica.
