A fusion of the style of the Art Deco period and a futuristic vision that would become Midcentury Modern, Karl Hagenauer was able to materialize his prophetic vision of design! First exhibited at the Milan Triennale in 1930, this pair of candelabras called "Baum" (Tree in German) earned him the gold medal, and rightly so! The success was such that it was offered on request only. There is a version of this candelabra in silver nickel color. Its carefully welded tubular design is only possible by sophisticated and detail-oriented welders and bronze craftsmen! The thinness of the walls and its polishing do not reveal any defects or excess, leaving only a minimalist and essential structure of the so-called "baum/tree". Imagine the surprise and amazement on the faces of visitors to the salon in 1930, a pivotal period in Europe between the political crisis and the Roaring Twenties, when artists revealed their genius and their wildest desires in terms of design. To see such a refined and minimalist work of its time was genius. Or madness. This four-armed madness supports four flat, round bobeches, ready to hold candles, but their design alone is enough as an object of art, for the pleasure of the eyes. Today restored, they have regained their former glory. Minimal wear remains, but their polish and condition are perfect for collectors.
