Watercolour painting (dated on the back 1909) on heavy paper depicting a lake landscape (possibly around Pesmes where the artist was accustomed to). The work is signed (family provenance of the artist) by Georges Marie Julien GIRARDOT (1856-1914). Works by this eminent artist are rare on the market but have already reached record prices (record at 55,000 euros for a symbolist work). For any further information or to request photos, please feel free to contact me. Biography: Georges Girardot was a painter born on 4 August 1856 in Besançon and died in 1914. Trained in Paris by the painter Albert Maignan, he was an associate member of the Academy of Sciences, Fine Letters and Arts of Besançon and Franche-Comté from 1907 to 1914, and a member of the Society of French Artists since 1883. Girardot primarily exhibited genre scenes at the Salon. At the 1890 Salon, he illustrated a Franche-Comté custom and had a preference for village scenes (Before the Wedding; Market Scene in Pesmes; Allegory of the Four Seasons). Girardot was awarded several times (Honourable Mention in 1893, third-class medal in 1896, second-class medal in 1907). He also painted more intimate scenes (Sunday Toilet), portraits (The Embroiderer; Portrait of Jean Girardot), as well as still lifes (Composition with Soup Tureen; Composition with Flayed Figure and Triptych; Composition with Antique Bust). Georges Girardot was trained by the artist Albert Maignan in Paris. He was a member of the Society of French Painters from 1883 and primarily exhibited genre scenes at the Salon. He was awarded several medals for his works. The pictures shown here demonstrate the artist's predilection for village scenes.
