Very original english buffet, acquired in australia in the early '80s. As evidenced by a copper plate riveted on one of the interior drawers, manufactured by "c. Meeking & co., london", a renowned firm in cabinetmaking and trade, active from the early nineteenth century to the early twentieth. The local antique dealer had reconstructed his journey, I.e. Part of a shipment of british furniture to australia, most likely around 1868-1869. The origin of the flemish-style cartouches with which it is decorated is unknown, one of the hypotheses being that they were painted on site by or for an emigrant from these regions. Solid mahogany furniture, in very good condition. Length: 121 cm, width: 50 cm, height: 97 cm – without shelf – and 142 cm – with shelf; shelf width: 16 cm. Additional photos on request. Delivery by mover possible, details to be discussed. "yellow pages" london, 1882: Post office london directory 1882. Meeking charles & co.
