Diamond Chair by Harry Bertoia for Knoll, white version. Awarded Designer of the Year in 1955, the Diamond Chair by Harry Bertoia is one of the lightest and best-selling chairs in furniture history. Produced by Knoll from 1952, this iconic piece is more akin to a sculpture than a chair. It takes its name, "little diamond," from its curved diamond shape. Harry Bertoia's sculptural approach, characterized by a focus on volume, made this chair a clear symbol of modernity and brought it immediate and enduring success. Made of steel wire welded point by point by hand, the chair's mesh-like backrest is supported by metal legs—a technique that gives this metal chair a striking impression of flexibility and lightness. Very good condition. Some minor scuffs have slightly damaged the paint. Composed of a mesh structure of steel wires welded point by point, the model shown here is a first edition (1950s/60s) and is therefore not engraved (KNOLL engravings from 1995 onwards). Its particularly durable finish makes it suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.
