Steen kepp blue green ceramic plate céramique de la borne diameter 25 cm steen kepp is a danish ceramist born in 1949, renowned for his in-depth exploration of ceramic firing techniques and his commitment to passing on his knowledge. After studying painting and printmaking in denmark, then at the beaux-arts in nice between 1967 and 1971, kepp discovered ceramics in 1972 in la borne, france, thanks to christine pedley, who would become his partner. Together, they embarked on a world tour in 1973-1974, which took them to japan. There, they were welcomed into shoji hamada's studio and spent three months with the traditional potter takeo sudō in mashiko, where they built a salt kiln. Returning to la borne in 1978, kepp built a teppo-gama wood-fired kiln, specifically for yakishime firing, a japanese high-temperature unglazed firing technique. This kiln, named ko-no-yama, was used for eight years and was a first in france. In 1986, kepp moved to sweden, where he continued to experiment with various ceramic techniques, including low-temperature firing and smoking from 1992. He then created sculptures such as "torii, " iridescent cushions, and boxes with metallic shades. At the same time, he taught at the kuben art college in örebro from 1995. After returning to france in 1997, kepp returned to sweden in 1999, where he continues to share his expertise through teaching and conferences. His work, exhibited internationally since 1977, is present in museum collections, including that of sèvres, and among private collectors.
