Exceptional French farmhouse table dating from the late 18th century, around 1780–1800. The table rests on a solid oak base and is topped with a remarkable single-piece chestnut tabletop. The chestnut has developed a deep patina over more than two centuries and features the rich grain, natural movement, and character for which old chestnut is valued. The table retains its two original drawers: a large drawer at one end and a smaller one on one of the long sides. Traditional mortise and tenon construction with wooden pegs reflects the craftsmanship of the period. With its generous proportions, this table comfortably accommodates eight to ten people and is suitable as a dining table, kitchen table, or large work surface. It is in good original condition with normal signs of age-related wear, old shrinkage cracks, surface marks, and historical repairs consistent with its age. One of the natural cracks has a small raised section where the wood has slightly lifted over time, adding to the authentic character of the piece. The table is structurally sound and ready for daily use. Dimensions. Width: 237 cm. Depth: 90 cm. Height: 79 cm. Height under the apron: 60–63 cm. Approximate weight: 100 kg.
