An antique wooden sideboard that appears to be in the Saint-Hubert style, notable for its carved pediment and turned columns. This style of dining room furniture was very popular in France in the 19th century (mainly during the Louis-Philippe and Napoleon III periods). It is more broadly part of the neo-Renaissance and Henri II styles of the late 19th century. Its typical characteristics are: The two-part open structure: A closed lower section (with doors and drawers) topped by an open upper structure with shelves, known as a shelf sideboard or serving table. The turned woodwork: The carved and turned wooden uprights and columns that support the upper levels. The carved pediment: A richly worked and moulded cornice at the top of the piece. The Saint-Hubert sideboard (named in reference to the patron saint of hunters) was used in bourgeois dining rooms to display tableware or the spoils of the hunt on its open shelves.
