Pantheon micro-mosaic box in Rome Italy agate background

This micro-mosaic was produced with great precision and great finesse. It is from the beginning of the 19th century, very beautifully made. It represents the pantheon in rome. The surround is in gilded brass. It has an agate background. We designate by the term “micro-mosaic” a mosaic in which the tiny elements of spun glass, fragments of colored enamel (smalti filati) or hard stones, constituting its decoration, are very finely assembled so as to make the joints almost imperceptible. We report friction and normal wear on the surround, a lack of patina inside, small crack on the right side, oxidation on the back. However, this box is in a superb state of conservation.
