Maria Pergay Gerbe steel and brass dining table 1970

This dining table is a rare variation of the iconic gerbe model by the french artist maria pergay, dated 1970. It is composed of a bundle of flat and arched blades in polished steel, brushed steel and polished brass on which is mounted an oval transparent glass slab. The sinuous curves of the materials evoke a fluidity and movement that add a dynamic and sculptural element to the room, and play with light. Testifying to the ingenuity and talent of maria pergay, this table will bring a touch of singular elegance to any interior. It has been restored, and is in superb condition. The glass top has been replaced, and could stand to be even larger. Examples of larger glass tops can be found on the wright website, where a gerbe table with a larger top sold for $126, 000 in september 2005, or on the demish danant website, with a rectangular glass top extra large. Maria pergay (1930 - 2023) is a french furniture designer of moldovan origin internationally known for her innovative creations taming steel, a material she considers "as precious as the most precious of woods". From the end of the 1960s, pergay distinguished himself from his contemporaries by his innovative approach which combined clean lines and raw materials to create pieces that were both functional and artistic. Over the decades, maria pergay has become a leading figure in the creative field, notably through her emblematic creations (eg, “gerbe” table, “totem” wall lights) which have contributed to redefining the standards of contemporary design. Today, its metallic signature continues to inspire and captivate furniture lovers around the world.
