ARBEY solid mahogany filing cabinet with curtain. 1930s/1940s. Rare model.

Superb and quite rare piece from the catalog of the legendary ARBEY house, Au Vieux Noyer, whose boutique was at 80 Faubourg St Antoine, Paris and the workshops at Pré St Gervais - as indicated by the magical metal lock entry which proudly sits on the filing cabinet part of this piece of furniture. Specializing in office furniture, ARBEY produced high-end furniture. Ours is an unusual model combining a filing cabinet and a glass cabinet. It is made of solid mahogany and in strict original patina. We note the careful finishing touches including a beautiful molded cornice and a pretty lower plinth, or the molded edge there also of the boards of the two side cabinets. These open with a glass door with the original lock and key (except the one on the right, key added but old) which work perfectly, revealing 5 solid oak shelves mounted on racks therefore easily adjustable. In the center, the filing cabinet features the famous double-beveled slats, ARBEY's trademark, which give it a unique, highly crafted look. The openwork key is original, as is the lock, which still works perfectly. The curtain slides effortlessly to the bottom, revealing 7 removable and adjustable shelves. The filing cabinet's strength is ensured by a metal bar that secures the two sides (it is in the middle of the cabinet). There are some varnish defects due to time, the lack of a lock turn on the right door (almost invisible) and a slight undulation of the cornice in the center (also not very annoying). Otherwise, this magical piece of furniture is in excellent overall condition, ready for use. It remains perfectly suited to our modern files and filing cabinets, but due to its quality and shallow depth, it can also serve as a bookcase or a beautiful wardrobe in a bedroom. H: 180 cm.
