I offer you this intriguing portrait of an elderly man, done in oil on panel, it immediately catches the eye with its expressive and stripped-down style. The sober composition, the earthy palette and the naive touch give this work a strong presence, halfway between folk art and modernist expression. The carved gilded wooden frame, inspired by the 19th century, enhances the nobility of this painting full of character. The back of the panel is annotated by hand with the name "Morillon". It could be a workshop work or a late work attributable, without certainty, to Étienne Morillon (1884–1949), a Lyon painter associated with the Ziniars, active in the first half of the 20th century.
