2-drawer dressing table, in beech wood with a large mirror, on a tubular chrome metal structure. This piece of furniture was produced between the 1920s and 1930s by the company vichr & co. Which, from the start, embraced the modernist trend after the first world war. This style, which is generally referred to as "bauhaus" after the famous german design school of the time, is better known in the czech republic under the term "functionalism" and was intended to be a movement advocating simplicity, lines refined and mass-produced to make furniture accessible to as many people as possible. It is directly opposed to the biedermeier style, very popular in central europe at the end of the century, and also to art nouveau and/or art-deco which, while renewing the classicism of the 19th century, did not manage to make its mark break with his different mannerisms. This dressing table was restored by a professional cabinetmaker in the early 2000s. The chrome was carefully cleaned and the wood was given a two-coat black polyurethane lacquer, as is still done for branded pianos. Even though this piece of furniture has since been presented numerous times at professional design fairs, it has suffered very little from these movements and remains in very good condition.
