Very nice old Napoleon III style terrestrial globe published by J. Lebègue et cie, rue de Lille in Paris, 60 cm in circumference, dating from the end of the 19th century or the beginning of the 20th century (after 1863 because Romania is already listed, after 1882 because Leopoldville in the Belgian Congo appears, but before 1911 because Mongolia is not mentioned, before 1916 because Poland is not mentioned, before 1914 because St. Petersburg appears). The globe is made of cardboard or papier-mâché, the base is made of black lacquered wood and the metal parts seem to me to be made of bronze with its dark patina today, but originally gilded. The original gold color can still be found on the non-visible sides of the pieces when the globe is dismantled. It is in good structural condition, still solid, no breaks or tears, but does not hide its age: stains, marks, coloring, discoloration and abrasions on the globe. On the foot, woodworm holes (treated by injecting white vinegar but it may be necessary to repeat the operation for more security) and losses on the black lacquer. The base of the foot is no longer completely flat, the globe therefore swings a little. It is perfect as decoration, but given its age and rarity I would be delighted if it were entitled to a beautiful restoration, which it richly deserves. It measures 36 cm in height, the globe measures approximately 20 cm in diameter, the base, slightly oval, measures 14.2 by 15.5 cm. It weighs approximately 850 g. Please do not choose the Mondial Relay option because the value of the item is too high to be covered by Mondial Relay insurance.
